morning industry's pakk-01

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

morning industry's pakk-01

Postby bar683 » 30 Nov 2006 4:31

I am trying to rekey a Morning Industry PAKK-01 (touchpad doorknob). I have removed the cylinder, but am not sure how to remove the plug. There is no clip, only a cap that doesn't look like it needs to come off, and a sixth pin that seems to hold the plug in place. Their website says to "Cut the blank re-keying tool key to the old key". Here are some pictures. Does anyone know what type of cylinders these are? And where I can get the "blank re-keying tool key"?
Thanks,
jd

well I'm not too sure the question but that sixth pin holding the cap in place should come out to remove the cap and then either use the key or shim the plug out. Use a plug follower, rekey to your desired keying and then follow the same directions in reverse

The question is how do I remove the plug? I don't know how to retract the sixth pin that is securing it. I have tried it without the key in, and with the key in at all points of rotation. The manufacturer is being very slooow about helping me. They said "we have a special frontal rekeying system", but have not described how to use it yet.
Thanks everyone,
jd

special key

Postby bar683 » 2 Dec 2006 18:37

The special key required is just the regular key, with the tip filed off. Turn 90 cw, and pull the plug out. The top pins extend into the plug cavity, but don't come out. The bullet shaped plug cap pushes the top pins back into the shell when put the plug back. To make it all work, the top pins are VERY rounded. Very easy to pick. And I have found some duplicate keys will pull the plug without any tip filing! If you have one of these, make sure you test all keys to see if they pull the plug, or you will be on your hands and knees with a flashlight and tweezers eventually.
