MLA MEMEBER CAUGHT STEALING FROM MLA EXHIBITION!!!!

HI i have heard from a director of the mla that an mla member has been kicked out of organisation due to being caught stealing at the bristol exhibition.
mr rose of the mla explained that he had no choice but to suspend the member after finding the items hidden in his van.

the member resides from rugby and has a shop there.

his name begins with i and he is death in one ear.

What ever happened to "Locksmiths don't steal" and "Only locksmiths should be trusted with this sort of information"?

Sounds to me like a fundamental breakdown somewhere.

I would imagine he now has a black eye in addition to his deaf ear. I'll bet it looks good on him too.

why isn't he wearing horizontal pinstripes? the mla went too soft on him. at the very least, criminal action should have been taken so he loses his business and has his burglary tools confiscated.

if the police were called it could have caused bad publicity for the mla so this was the best course of action for them i suppose.
they had the theft on camera and they asked the guy 3 times to come clean.
he denied it so they searched his hotel room and van and they found the stolen items.
the mla said that if he would have admitted it all they would have done was kick him out of the mla but because he didnt they have told everyone.

his shop has currently closed business and he is now just operating out of van.

See, if this were just a case of a locksmith stealing tools and then getting busted I'd be tempted to say something like "don't paint them all with the same brush" here, but the fact that the MLA took this position leads me to believe they're no better than he is.

I remember at the Telford MLA exhibition something similar happened.

Someone got away with a few of Chris Belcher's picks, although having seen the-I.M.O-poor security involved in getting in it seems hardly surprising that people took advantage.

It's a shame really - Most of the tools would pay for themselves if you were a trading locksmith.

i think he was having financial troubles but all the same, being an mla member and a locksmith, its pretty dumb to steal

Actually, if that's the attitude the MLA takes in these situations it's probably worth the risk for would-be thieves.

If this was a true account of goings on, from a legal perspective i can see a number of inconsistencies that would leave any prosecution invalid.

1) by what authority was a search of the alleged offenders van carried out, any search by MLA or by a member of the public would constitute an ilegal search, so not admissable in court.

2) As no crime has been reported , no crime has been committed, therefore any name and shame would constitute slander without proper admissable proof being available.

So either this guy was stupid, allowing a search of his van and room when the search is not legal and especially if he was guilty, and even dafter if he allows unproven slanderous remarks to be made about him by the mla.

Also if this is how the MLA are acting , then they themselves need to review their actions, as not the way i would expect an association representing me to act.

It would be interesting to see an mla member or commitee member to post on this, as all a very poor situation indeed, if the event happened then it was badly mismanaged from start to finish, if it did not happen, then i feel for the guy at the center of it.
