getting back into it!

Postby Crazyman67 » 4 Dec 2006 0:14

Hello everyone, i got a set of picks about a year ago, and i started to play around with the idea of lockpicking. I wasnt really good at it, and i slowly lost interest. Today I saw my pickset in my drawer and figured id give it a shot. I picked a few quickset locks that i found and few masterlocks also. I was pretty excited, and i think i may try and get back into lockpicking. Would anyone have an advice on beginner locks that i should try and get to help me get started?

Thanks for any and all help! :)

try some schlage deadbolts if you are getting pretty good with kwikset. just beware that some schlage models come with security pins that can be kind of tricky to pick. also you might want to contact your local locksmith and see if they carry and LSDA brand locks using the SC1 keyway, romstar (a member here on the forum) swears they are of better quality then the average deadbolt.

I forgot to mention you may want to try picking up a re-keying kit to change the locks you have around a little bit. sometimes taking a lock that is keyed something like 45332 and changing it to 75262 will help... having long pins in the front followed by some shorter pins in the back can make picking it slightly harder.

Welcome back to it! :)

I hope you fall back in love with this wonderful hobby. You said your dad has a re-keying kit? Does he work in the industry?
