on the first set, did you heat treat the coat hanger for the pick gun? im making one myself

thats all right.

The coathanger pick was not heat treated. I was just lucky to find an oldie hanging on the rack. I heat treated the fishtape gun but that seriously reduced tensile by 50%.

The big set is a one of. Compared to Rytans, Petersons and SOs these are a little too big proportionally but then at the time how did I know? Good Luck!

Hi All, this is my first post. I live in Australia, and even worse in Adelaide, and it is near impossible to get hold of a decent pick set. I used to have one, but it disappeared in a recent move. I would love to make some, both for use and for the enjoyment of making them. I know there are templates here somewhere, but I cant find them. I tried ftp://nickz.homeftp.net/ but that doesn't seem to work.

Can anyone point me in the right direction. I can provide an email address if necessary (have an abundance of email addresses scattered around).

that thread was created like not even 2 days ago... this forum DOES have a search function and it DOES work... so use it. also that thread is in the top 15 in the "got questions? forum... so even LOOKING would have led you to it. try looking for them a little harder next time.

i went out and got one of those drain snakes at home depot. it cost like $6. its 20' long. i made the first one and use heat shrink for the handle but decided i wanted it reinforced for better feel. so i added another laer on each side. it came out nice. i havent even started polishing these yet this is just the rough cut/grind. and i messed up the snake and its too big so i have to re-do that one

Personally I get brick strap for free (HD cut it off of the bundles of wood when we bring them down, cut it in 5 inch strips and take it home) and honnestly I like it more than hack saw blades. (also I can make a pick and a tension tool out of one 5 inch piece.) I take the pieces that are not rusted up, stick a template to them with 3m spray adhesive or elmers, grind them down to shape with a grinder and dremel, then use the metal brush attatchment on the grinder to get rid of the black paint (actually gives it a nice finnish just at that stage too), sand it and then polish them.

(still can use some polishing/touching up)

So Yeah for a free source of metal it works well.

those are a work of art. you said that you found the templates for the picks online. anywhere specific? I'm looking for warded pick templates, and have been for some time. please share if you are able
