Hi azital, welcome to the forums. I would suggest you start out with manual picks for now and maybe choose to learn how to use electric picks later on. Good luck!

The laws are different for each of the provinces so location is important. As for the picks a 14 - 20 piece manual set is a good start, but you will most likley use the same 2 or 3 picks most of the time.

I always recomend that beginners start with manual picks. Leave the electric picks for the working locksmith.
lockpickshop will send picks to you with no problems.
Good luck,

In not wanting to clutter the forum, I guess my Canadian question will fit in here nicely. Being located in Alberta, are there some laws concerning lock picking I should be aware of? And is there an online lock pick store located in Canada, or will I just have to put up with the cross-border shipping? Thanks.
I'm sorry hijacking this thread and if this has already been answered in a sticky or previous post.

I would suggest making your own picks and not ordering any until you aquire the appropriat licencing, jail is not a happy place. and no there are not any online canadian pick stores

Alberta does not make it possible for hobbiests to obtain a pick license. They are one of only three provinces requiring one, and B.C. only requires the license if you are working as a locksmith.
While most companies will ship picks to you, and there is almost no possibility of them being confiscated, you should be aware that under Alberta law you are supposed to have a license to possess the picks.
Personally, I can't imagine the crown prosecutor taking the time to follow through with a charge against a private citizen, but it is possible.
If you are going to be picking in Alberta, I generally recomend that you do not just run around with picks looking to be questioned.
All told, if you are so inclined, contact the local police, or look on-line to find information on where and how to obtain a pick license.

sounds suspicious...

Surely you can't be serious about the licensing? I don't believe Ontario has any licensing requirements for lockpicks? Or am I wrong here, I guess if that's the case I better cancal my order!

I make my own picks. Just use the templates that others have posted, and a few simple hooks.
also as long as your front door is like every one elses front door down your street, the picks they tell you to buy will work.
Also don't pick locks you rely on. AKA door lock. If it breaks you arn't going to be very happy with yourself.
