Need to replace safe cam lock, DUO cam lock any good?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

There are only 3 "guaranteed" bump proof locks sold in the American market. Abloy, Bilock & Emhart Interlocking!

Medeco have never (in any interviews or communiques) indicated that their products are bump proof...only bump resistant.

The only people suggesting that Medeco are bump proof and pick proof are those resellers of the product trying to push further sales for themselves.

Medeco are definitely a quality product but as has been shown in numerous videos online, are able to be picked easily. I personally have seen a Medeco deadbolt picked in front of me and I have also witnessed a Medeco rim cylinder being bumped. Yesterday I was in Chicago at a friends home and showed him that the Medeco locks can indeed be picked. It only took me about 20 minutes. ( I believe this is far too long and frustrating - and in a professional situation would probably have drilled it by now)

Yes Medeco are the largest American owned High Security cylinder manufacturer, but the product is made off-shore - therefore those purchasers who buy Medeco are not directly supporting American made products as they might have thought.

One of the only High-Security cylinder products actually manufactured in USA, is Bilock (made under license from the Australian company) which is made in Connecticut with raw materials sourced from abroad. So...if buying American made is important to you...and you desire a very high quality product at a supremely competitive price, a product that cannot be bumped (guaranteed) and is very difficult to pick (not impossible - but improbable)....perhaps you should consider alternatives to Medeco or Abloy.

BTW....IMHO....Abloy Protec is the best mechanical physical high-security product available on the planet today!

Thanks for listening. 8)

I would limit that to the best mechanical physical high-security lock in cylinder form on this planet today.

What do you mean by "guaranteed"? Does that mean the manufacturer can attest to the lock being un-bumpable? If not, you missed a few american-made locks that are un-bumpable.

Exactly....whichever way you want to put it. Guaranteed by the manufacturer. What other "American-Made" cylinder type locks are un-bumpable?

cam lock

Postby greyman » 5 Dec 2006 15:22

Good cam locks? I would think Medeco is fine - don't believe all you see. How do you know that the cam lock you saw picked wasn't prepped for it? It might have all the same pins for instance. I would think medeco cam is just as hard to pick as biaxial.

For other cam locks with a decent spec, have you looked at ASSA desmo ot Tubar? Both UK rated, I believe. Abloy is good too, of course.

BiLock makes a nice cam lock too. I wouldn't be too fussed about bumping for sidebar locks in general (or DUO for that matter). There's not usually pin pairs that can separate across the shear line. I've heard of Medeco being bumped but it doesn't sound like a reliable technique.

I'd be more worried about drill or grinder attack.
