Repinning kit for Christmas

Postby Fixxxer » 5 Dec 2006 14:19

I've got about 9 Schlage deadbolts that need to be repinned in my house. My brother is really starting to get into lock picking (like myself), so I told him that he could get me a repinning kit for Christmas. Since it'll be a gift, I want to keep it as simple as possible (so he's not running to a bunch of different places, trying to buy a bag of one kind of pins here and another kind there).

I found a Schlage repinning kit that looks pretty good, and isn't too expensive (since I'm only doing 9 locks) here:

From the looks of it though, it doesn't come with any type of security pins... Could anyone recommend a small, affordable repinning kit like this (that I can use on Schlage locks) that also comes with some security pin options? If there aren't any, I suppose he could order the kit, and I can just get the security pins separately... If this is the case, can anyone recommend a good place to get some security pins that would work well with this set?

Thanks! :)

I think CLK supplies sells them by the bag of 100 or 144 for around $5.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

That's not a bad price on the kit. Actually only a few dollars more than wholesale.

personally, for a little more, I would go with the masterlock #291 kit. It comes with key guages and plug followers. The kit you are looking at doesn't come with these. And to re-pin, you would need a follower anyway. Plus, there is detailed instructions on the net for re-pinning and masterkeying. I use mine for both masterlock and american locks as they are the same company. American in....America and Masterlock in Canada. Not knowing anything about Schlage, I would assume the pins will fit from my kit into your locks as they are more than likely a universal pin. The only difference is masterlock pin sizes are #0 thru 7 and american is 1 thru 8. So, a #0 in masterlock is a #1 pin for american.
