which lock types used where?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

which lock types used where?

Postby jaydag71 » 5 Dec 2006 15:29

I am kind of new to pickin, I used to be pretty good at it some years ago, just using a simple home-made rake type config I was usually able to open most pin-tumblers within 1-5min, I know that is way too long for competition but whatever. Anyways, these days I picked it up again (nopun) but this time have been trying manual single pin pickin and I am just so frusterated at this point I have all but given up. I make all my own tools and have copied most configs from proven winners.

My first couple of test subjects have been a weiser, taymor and a copuple of generic padlocks, no dice with any of them. My picks were fashioned from old wax carvers and my tension wrench from old allen keys (tiny), again I've had zero luck with it and my skill is nil.

Last night I tried making a bumper key and managed to get the taymor open many many times now, usually within 3 secs or so. Thats my experience thus far, now for questions.

What do dimple type keys fit into, lock type (dimple lock?) and what are these types of systems used/found in? What about barrel systems? What system do they implement in parking meters? (beside the tubular type found on most mechanism tops?)

Thanks in advance, jd

why do you want to know about parkign meters? realistically either you bought one w/o a key that you can tell us abotu and show up pictures of (say in your basement and not attached suspiciously to a post mounted in concrete near a road.

if you can pick/rake a bit though you should be able to tell what sort of lock a lock you have is unless it's truly obscure, at which point more info is necessary.

p.s. parkign meters in most localaties dont' have that much cash in em anyway, and is a kinda a little bit illegal usually, in most places to open them.

The information you are requesting is not spoken about in the genreal forums, it is reserved for the advanced area only. You're question is also a little sketchy and makes me believe you're up to illegal activities which we do not promote or help on this site any further question should be addressed to by phone to (250)248-6111... have a good day

i think we made it pretty clear that all you have to do is be nice and post some pictures of a VALID reason why you want to know about the locking mechanism of something that contains money... i mean do you seriously expect us to just come right out and talk about that with someone that is totally new and unknown to us... maybe if you stuck around to learn the sport a little before diving into a SPECIFIC lock we would be a little less apprehensive...

I'd answer your questions about dimple and tubular key and locks if I knew what you wanted to know.

As far as the parking meter...probably aint gonna happen on this site.
