A snib is the little knob bit on the back of a latch, you move it to either hold the latch open or once the door is closed to stop the latch from being pushed back into the body,

A dropped snib is when the door has been slammed shut (almost impossable unless there is a big gap for it to force throguh) with the snib down hece creating a lockout where the key wont work,

I know your going to ask how to get around it but its not somthign for the public forums im sorry, but as a hint you can use the letter box or have to start drilling to flick the snib back,

With the lower standards of lock manufacture and the availability of cheap locks dropped snibs are just if not more common than they once were, but it used to be and can occur when the snib clip wore over time on a latch and just fell. So not all that impossable if you know what you are talking about and had any experience, perhaps?

If your called to a dropped snib, check around the back first, you could well be dealing with a burglary. Seen this a couple of times and had to break the news that they have been broken into. Not nice.
