You guys seriously need to turn the GAIN level down on your BS meters. I was just wondering if these locks could be picked easily, or if I should just go ahead and spend the money on a locksmith. Note the fact that I asked for info about those kinds of locks and didn't just run out saying "HOW DO I PICK THIS LOCK?!?!?" like some 13 year old locker thief. Chill out.

Calm down. have a look around the forum every day there are loads of requests like this. from people that are quite probably not doing anything wrong up to people asking how to beak in to a car.

Until you have built up a bit of a post count, some people recognize you and its obviousness you are not a thief then all these kinda of posts are met in kind, defensively.

This is after all a locksmith/lock sport/hobby site not an advice forum. and as general information is free to all more specific questions are general from people that just want something from the forum not a potential community member.

Yes the lock on you locker can be picked. any mechanical lock can be picked but if you want to pick it as your first lock then the chances are you will struggle. many members on hear take over 40minut to open a simple cheap lock and the chances are if this is on a foot locker then its not going to be as easy as them. but im sure as soon as u provide a picture of the locker you will find people very forthcoming, as well as me.

All the best and welcome to the forums

John

guess my first comment came off kinda wrong. I mean seriously, who actually calls people crotchety old farts? It just seemed like I got an overwhelming responses all saying basically the same thing. Gordon Airporte's post way fine, and if nobody else had posted, I wouldn't have said anything. It just seemed like I was being swarmed with people suggesting I was a thief and possibly a lier, which is an attack on my character. But, like I said "...I understand considering the topic". I was just trying to keep things rational.

*thank you sir may i have another*

dang, I can't edit my post. I meant to say liar, not lier. I knew it wasn't right. Anyways the only thing the lock says is T-45 long lock, nothing else anywhere on the chest. I might have pictures tonight.

Most of these footlockers take a simple key that resembles the one pictured below. I have no problems posting this as it is on about the same security level of telling people how to open the indoor privacy knobs with the small wire tool they come with.

It looks like it could be that simple. I haven't gotten a set of picks yet, but I was messing around with a couple hairpins without luck, but again, not sure I knew what I was doing.

Imagine, if you did not have this skill, you'd either leave the key in the lock as a precaution or be looking for them for days, while you could be playing poker!

Ah....
Life's good when you're a lock picker, hey?

sorry their not great quality. It's hard to tell from the pictures really, but it looks like inside the lock there is a center hold, and then a separate hole below it. So my only guess is the key has prongs or something. But there you go.

It takes a key just like the one I pictured.

I have a key similar to that, it doesn't do a thing. I'll try again.

But you wouldn't know how to pick it, not even mentioning that you woulnd't know that it CAN be picked.

That's the ironic part.
Lack of knowledge is as mighty as a Medeco biaxial: no way of getting in, bacause you don't know how, or if it can be done.
