WHY IS IT SO HARD?

Postby mtj_nvk » 12 Dec 2006 0:47

I have just start it, picking locks, without sucsessful. Yesterday I get tools - pick tool and tension tool. At home I have 5pin lock, but I can not open it. I m from Europe, slovenia, and in our homes pins in locks are turned down. What is your experience with starting picking? Does someone have sugestion, solutions, advice for me have to not lose my nervous and maybe someday starting sucsessful opening many locks? SO, WHY IS IT SO HARD?
-Should I start picking locks with less pins?
-Is it easy with elect. guns or bump keys?

:( :x :x :(

I'm pretty new myself, but a lot of the newbie advice suggest taking apart a lock and re-pinning it one at a time. Practice picking a lock with one pin, then two, etc. Only add more when you are really comfortable with what you are doing, and don't just poke and prod randomly. Make sure you understand what you are feeling for (set pins, binding pin, false sets, etc.).

Good luck and don't lose heart.

its so hard because... well.. picking locks isn't like they show in the movies... it takes skill and practice.

Hey, welcome to the site and such. Everyone gets this lecture so it is not directed at you necessarily...

first off always follow these simple rules:

1) Search before you ask, this makes life better for everyone because there are less repeat threads and we're not answering the same "what is a bump key" type questions over and over.

2) DON'T PICK LOCKS YOU RELY ON!!! This means if the lock is attached to a door, cabinet, vehicle, chastity belt, casket, whatever... unless it is there for the SOLE PURPOSE of being picked, DO NOT PRACTICE WITH THAT LOCK. You CAN and WILL break it... and then your in trouble.

3) DONT PICK LOCKS YOU DONT OWN!!! The only thing worse then breaking the lock attached to your sister's chastity belt is breaking a lock you don't own. Unless you are a locksmith or have EXPLICIT permission to pick a lock, with the owner understanding the lock may be damaged, DO NOT PICK IT.

That being said check out these places for helpful information on getting started.

and check out EVERY link found on this page, they are all great:

I soo a movie on google. Dud made pickgun with electr tooth brush, it has the same vibrating like the real one, cool. I will try it, and if I fail it wont cost ($10) in compare with original gun ($100). I will start with easiest locks, with one ,two or three pins.

dude. i don't think there's anything worse than breaking the lock to your sister's chastity belt. I mean-- there are obvious implications here. Not to mention, this also falls under as a lock you do not own. :P

i'm pretty new here too.

i found that the instruction of takign a cheap lock, and pulling it down to 1 pin and then building up from there to be a HUGE help.
