How not to open your Northern Telecom NE-22 lever lock

I finally went ahead and took the rivets off that hold the cover on this lock. I should have looked over Matt Blaze's Western Electric document a few more times before I did this though. I took the heads off the bottom so not only did the cover come off but all the rivets that hold the lock mechanism together. The pieces are still being held together so I've got a chance at fixing it but what a shame. So, should you attempt to do the same take the rivets off the TOP :).

It's interesting how this lock differers from a Western Electric. At first I thought it was missing several significant pieces but after looking closer I realize it's very similar and only the shapes of a few things are different (The ratchet looking piece in the upper left of Matt's locks is part of the bolt on my lock).

I'll have more pics some day when I get more time to play with it.

I cannot really see how many levers there are inside. Maybe you could disassemble them and take a photo?
They (one could think its only ONE lever from the photo) seem to have false gates, apart from that opening should be possible. Just search for that big lever lock post. I think its a sticky.

the photos give the other view of the lock, and they do add to the information in matts breakdown. I still wonder what tool james clark was using.

Does this lock prevent the levers from being lifted before the fence engages them or is it just heavily false notched?

This lock has 7 levers but there is a 9 lever version too (And possibly other variants for all I know). The bottom lever (The one viewable) has a shallow false gate and the actual gate which is the deep notch. The key engages the levers before the stump is allowed to make contact with them. I don't know much about lever locks (yet) but it seems like it would be difficult to get feedback to know if you where aligned with a gate with this lock. However it must be possible since they took the step of putting false gates in the fence. I've got more pictures on the site if you go back to the parent directory.
