The Never-Ending Macgeyver Pick Ideas

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Wow. Most of this thread is dedicated to "______ doesn't count".

Now....

Superglue and strips of paper can be made into a quike sort of paper mache. I'd only use this for my tension wrench.
McGuyver himself yanked the wiring from inside a lightbulb for use as a lockpick, when he was locked up in an asylum.

Very interesting idea. id try it except i used the last of my superglue in the weekend. I suppose you could superglue anything to make it stronger.Paperclips, random bits of wire, etc, etc, etc...

Id imagine wire from a lightbulb would be to weak, but add a bit of superglue and she'd be sweet as...
Haha you could actually claim that you used wire from a lightbulb to pick a lock, just like McGyver. 8)
Wow.
You would have serious bragging rights on this forum.

I would take my eyeglasses and grind down the earpiece on the concrete and bend the tip up a bit for a hook. Then I would take the antenna from my remote control helicopter and flatten it and put a 90 degree angle in it for my torque wrench. Oh and I guess I would add some super glue for strength. lol

Haha im actually considering when my next light blows to smash it up(carefully of course  ) and get the wire out and superglue it up.
I would make a video of me picking a lock but the only video camera i have is on a digital camera and its completely mud, not even sound.
So you guyz will have to look at pictures

Will I be the first to actually pick a lock with light bulb wire or has someone else already done it? Or will someone elses light blow before mine? :P

You'd either need a very big gun or a lot of ammo. A hammer might be more effective, really.

You could strip an electrical plug (not the outlet) steal one of the tongs and use that as a very crude torque wrench. A bent fork tong would probably be slim enough for a hook pick.

It is a process known as laminating. It is what gives plywood more strnegth than diminsional lumber. I can see that idea working maybe.

Although the other reason it has more strength/flexibility is because each layer's grain faces a different direction from the one before it...

As for Needing a big gun, not true. I've seen some one put a nail through a 1/4 inch steel plate that was used as a backstop for a pistol range using one of those hammer type nail guns working on .22 blanks.

Also I'm sure someone here placed a video of a guy using a 12 gauge to open locks at some point in time.

Only time I've seen Macgyver open a lock with a light bulb was the one where he filled the warded/lever lock up with gas from a disposable lighter then swing-ed the lightbulb at it causing it to blow the lock out when the bulb broke.

And i'm still trying to figure out a macgyver method that will really stick out.

Acutally, i dont think a gun will work at all without a piercing-type ammo.

I think i watched a show, ?Mythbusters?, and when they used a dummy holding a gun to try it... the bullet either ricochetted or spalled back metal at the dummy... and because of the angle of the gun to lock and back to the dummy... all the metal shards embedded in the dummy's lower regions.... you know where.

That's fine, now take a nail and punch it through a lock cylinder. Does the lock open?

Alright here is what I would do (while trying to think entirely out of the box)-->

Take a toothbrush and file it down into a pick of choice using a file or concrete.

Use a zipper for the the Tension wrench (very crude)

I've used a 40# ram and it opened every door I tried in one try. The next rule should be, "it cannot do damage" or "no one should be able to tell you opened it".

what about the clip from a cell phone case/holder. the leather clips seem to have a nice springy metal inside, should beable to pull that out and grind/file it down into a pick and tension wrench.
