Lockpick information

Postby Gesshoku » 22 Dec 2006 12:00

Heya, I have been looking at lock pick sets to buy on the net, and I have come across I think I am going to get, but there is two different types with this set, one specifies that it has steel handles, and it costs close to ten dollars more, the other doesn't specify anything about handles, at all.

So my question is what is the difference? They are both the exact same company, model, etc. except for the handle.

I was also wondering about the jackknife sets. Are they any good?

k well the plain ones are just sheet metal and the ones with the handles are a little thicker and easier on the fingers but get a a little less feedback

I think I will go with the ones that don't have the handle just for the fact that you mentioned about feedback. At least for now so I can get the hang of things first, then I might get some better tools down the road a bit.

SO are great pick for beginners. i think the more experienced people on here use better ones but i doubt ude notice if ur just starting. there not that bad on the old fingers but i have electrical tape wrapped around about 80% of the handle because some nights ill be picking for a while. just wrap it round twice or u will notice a lack of feeling though.

I have a set of southords, and I think they are absolutely great picks (compared to paperclips and keychain rings  ) Another alternative to the electrical tape is, and ive heard this mentioned several times, what is called "heatshrink". apparently you just slip it on the handle, and heat it up until it shrinks to the size of the handle.
It's ok guys, i have a really bad attention sp-wow look, a beach!

yeah, sorry you posted when I just did Deathadder, I will use heat shrink, I have a bunch of it here because of my job, and several different types. I also have a ton of electrical tape because of work as well, so I should be able to find something that works alright.

heat shrink works well and looks nice bit a bit thicker. its all down to the individual. try both and let us know how u get on. i used tape because i had it to hand and it worked well. then it seems a lot of people use it.

Good luck with your picking. and remember we are all here to help each other but the search button is your friend

Since you have alot of Heat-Shrink tubing around from work, you may notice that not all of that tubing is the same thickness.

I have alot and noticed that the white and red tubing is thinner than the black tubing. Experiment with them and i'm sure you will find something that works best for you.

You go ahead and hit things hard, but I trust you mean your own personal practice locks that you have purchased from stores. If we find you're hitting up convenient stores or the principal's office, you can be danm sure the police will be called, and I'll be the one dialing. :D
