Amercian Tension Tool

Postby bumpit » 25 Dec 2006 0:25

Hello, I will be receiving an American lock soon. The series number is 1105. http://www.yadtel.net/~melvin2001/amer1105.pdf I have seen templates on the American circular tension wrenches and I was wondering if it is a big issue in order to pick this particular lock. Would it be a major help for me in order to pick this particular lock or would it only help me a small amount. Thank you.

circular tension wrench?

Postby gostone » 25 Dec 2006 0:55

Are you referring to the Falle tension tools? Or something else, because the Falle wrenches are not American.

I am not sure who this is made by. It could be home made possibly.

It is a copy

Yes, it is similar to the Falle wrenches, do a search and have a look. It is an excellent set. I have the Falle wrenches myself, they would probably work well with that lock.
I find they work well with difficult locks, because you can apply even tension, and get a good feel for with them. Here is the Falle set...............you can see the wrenches on the left.Image

Making tools

Postby gostone » 25 Dec 2006 1:52

Yes, I also make my own tools. I am designing some new tools presently. Included will be a circular wrench desisn similar to the ones you are discussing.
Here is a portable little set I made, the new ones will be double ended, and very cool.

Where did you get that pocket clip for your picks?

That's an interesting looking tool. I'm currently deployed in Iraq and I deal with American series locks on a pretty regular basis and I think that tool or something like that would be immensely useful. I've got a few 5200s that i'm having a bit of difficulty with right now.

Speaking of tools, has anyone ever given thought to the use of Bobby Pins? Since they come in different sizes and the metal they're made of seems pretty strong for the intended purpose, there could be some practicle uses i'd think. I know when I first got into picking locks, my first set was made of bobby pins and they worked very well. Anyone else have any thoughts on that?

Well, my thoughts on anything war related --- get a key or cut it off. What's the point in picking a lock if you can't use that lock again anyway?

Things like safety pins and bobby pins are fine if you want to dick around, but there is no substitute for buying a real pick set.

Falle Set

Postby gostone » 25 Dec 2006 13:06

You can get the Falle set from Safe ventures in the UK, it is a rather expensive set, it will run you about $300.00.
Early in the new year I may have a similar tension tool available for sale. I am designing a set of tools now in CAD.
The clip for my case came from a ruler case made by sterling.

Those are ripped templates from my site. I have edited the links to not show up since that user does not have permission to be hosting the files.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

Removed file

Postby gostone » 25 Dec 2006 15:13

Just curious, what was the removed file? Was it a template for the circular tool?
