Did you see "The real Hustle"

European hardware -lever locks, profile cylinders specific for European locks. European lock picks and European locks.

Just seen that episode of the real hustle. got acouple of points

1. How did she manage to lock herself out on a Euro when here keys were inside?

2. If no-one had been in the house before the lockie arrived, how did they get the cameras in there?

I know some upvc mechs don't operate the latch by use of the handle from the outside. You've gotta use the key. As he picked the cylinder this was obvoiusly not the case here. If that was me on a job i would have been suspicious from the start.

Maybe it was a euro with a latch that you pull to lock?

Either way, I'd be careful not to leave identifying material in the garbage bin except for name address stuff. No old bills, especially credit card slips or receipts with that kind of info on it. Throwing identifying material in your bin is inviting ID theft.

Problem with asking for drivers licence or passport etc is that most people couldn't lay hands on either of them letalone carry either with them.
She did have photo ID, but would you accept gym ID as proof?
Don't forget that she had the photo ID with the householders name on it and a utility bill in the same name at that address and because he let her go in first, she was able to pick up the purse (with her picture in it) as if she had picked it up from the table behind the door instead of from the floor where she posted it through the letterbox.
Tricky one.

I once locked the car keys inside the car.
Called out a locksmith, paid upfront using a debit card and he didn't want any real ID. Just wanted me to sign a company disclaimer.

I was a bit worried after watching that programme on BBC3.

I've got EVVA DPS locks and if some rogue called a locksmith out, he could just drill out the locks and use a universal key.
Even if with an alarm, they'd be in and out in 5 minutes.
What can be done to stop this??

Just seen it, good to see him picking the lock with hand picks, A small SO set. The price made me smile. £88.13 + VAT for an opening, no locks etc. Where did the 13p come from!

if you give odd numbers, maybee people are less likely to haggle, maybee because they think there is a reason why it is set at that price.

Some people increase their prices as their taxes do. So, he set it at 70 when he begun... And now it's 88.13 after applying the increase.

He had not added Tax yet £88.13 PLUS Tax he said. pizarro i see your point, just couldnt be bothered getting change etc for 13p with cash payments. £88 or £88.50 maybe! Still quite a bit for a Day opening - nearly £100 with Tax. 'National locksmiths' he had on the van. Wonder if he's on here :D

I did not mean VAT, but rather income tax.
