KRYPTONITE vs ACE II

Postby mikedogy » 24 Apr 2004 19:54

I purchased a tubular lock pick , ive gotten to the point that i can pick a kryptonite bike lock with ease. have i really acomplished any thing , my goal is the ACE II lock. how do the two compare in picking difficalty, i hope that makes sence ? I think some one might understand that question.

Kryptonite locks have equal strength springs, ACEII locks contain springs of differing strength which affects the picking needles. As the tension on the needles is the same for all needles, the pin containing stronger/weaker spring is pushed more than enough, or not enough to reach the shear line.

some kryptonite4 locks have the ace II cylinder, so look out for the kryptonite #4 I have one and I tried to impression it, using a rattail file accross the blank edge at a 45 degree angle, but I never finished because it was hard to see the impresions through the blood that was smearing from my finger.

BTW, I don't have a tubular pick. Kinda defeats the purpose of lock picking and takes a lot of the skill/fun/frustration out of it, IMHO.

I'm not saying the ACEII can't be picked with a regular tubular pick. I'd imagine that if you inserted the pick with light tension, pulled it out and increased tension without resetting the needles, then re inserted it, you may stand a better chance.

Haven't had chance to have a go at an ACEII with normal tools yet, but I don't see it being much harder. The only problem with normal tools is repicking after each 1/8 turn, then repicking to lock again. Tubular picks do increase the speed, but take the skill out of picking IMHO.
