I love the internet -- full of little interesting nooks like this. I'm really interested in adding lock picking to my repertoire... although I know it will take a long while (due to its complexity and my lack of productive leisure time).
there's the intro. =)
I'm Rebekah.

Welcome everybody,
For all thoes new to the site and lockpicking, LP101 is a great place to start.
Take a look at the new users section, first and don't be afraid to ask any questions just remember to try a search before posting.
If you're looking for locks to pick, buy some but, DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU RELY ON
I repeat DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU RELY ON, they can and will break, then your house/car/safe/chasity belt is vulnerable or unable to be opened (think: emergency situation).
Cheers,
UWSDWF

Before you pick a lock:
The first thing that you should do is check to make sure that
the lock is your's and secondly make sure its not in use.

I'm a member of the United States Air Force and am currently serving in Iraq. I was searching for something new to learn and help me pass the time when I found this site. After reading through the forums and learning some introductory techniques, I tried it out on some power panel locks with a small screw driver and a paper clip. Each lock only had 3 pins so I had them all open in no time. I then bought a Dyno Quick Pick and a Master Lock No. 575. I opened it about 4 times in 3 days which was great but somewhat frustrating. After reading more through the forums I purchased a SouthOrd 14 piece set to learn with. Within the first 12 hours of getting the set I had the same 575 lock opened 50+ times. I'm convinced that the success was due to the tension wrench not the pick.
I just want to say thank you for such a great site. This is the most welcoming and professional web forum that I have ever come across. There is so much knowledge and experience here and it seems that no one has a dumb question. Thank you for making my deployment fly by.

I just got interested in locks (as a hobby) in the past month. This is about the only site I've found that lets you join even if you aren't a member of the trade.
I've been reading everything I can find. And this forum is a very good source of information, from what I've seen so far. Thanks for having a place the hobbyist can go to learn.

I am new to this and I had no idea it was so big. I have enjoyed reading the posts. I am going to attempt to make some picks and try my hand at picking. Sounds a little tough, but I like new things and challenges. First challenge is to make some picks.

For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!
