Just got my lockpick kit, but I am having toruble holding the padlock and tension wrench and pick, suggestions?

Try holding the padlock in your left hand with your first 4 fingers. Youcan push the tension wrench clockwise with your pinkie. This method actually provides pretty good feel and sensitivity, because the pinkie is so small. If that doesn't work just keep experimenting till you find something comfortable.

On padlocks, I hold the lock in my left hand, with my index, middle, ring, and pinky holding the lock by pushing it against my palm. I use my thumb to provide clock or counterclock torque, while I lift the pins with my right hand.

I found that the first 'trick' to picking is figuring out how to hold the lock or cylinder. I agree with pauly003 -using your pinky on the torsion bar. Less torque is better.

Second, be sure that the picks are smooth, and free of sharp edges and burrs. Run each of them over your fingers, if any are not smooth and snag free, polish them until they are. Very light filing, fine paper, or fine Scotchbrite pads -green works for me- will get the picks slick.

actually going on youtube and seeing how people hold(and pick) their locks would be more informative if you've never done it before
