im going to buy a practise lock i dont want to waste my money

i need a lock that i can change and remove pins
which is best door or padlock?

ive researched masterlock(the ones with the screw under the shackle)(no grinding or cutting required)

will they be too hard for a beginner i just want basic pins, none of the tricky serrated stuff or anything, but i must be able to change the pins

You should buy a quikset doorknob, deadlock or rep. cylinder. Easiest to pick, easiest to find, can change pins easy. The perfect beginner lock. Also, when you go to buy the lock, buy a master No.3 Padlock, which is the easiest padlock to open.

a rep (replacement) cylinder is basically the lock itself. In a deadbolt, you have the cylinder (the lock) and then you have a pretty housing for it, with the latch etc. If you buy just a replacement cylinder, you can save money, and purchase higher security rep. cylinders sometimes cheaper than the whole kit of crappy brands. So basically, its all you need, the lock. You can mount this on a piece of wood also, (search for my lock mount, it shows a lockwood rep. cylinder mounted)

this is similar to the one I bought, and I would reccommend a rep. cylinder as the first lock you buy. Make sure you take all the pins out, and put in one pinstack at a time, until you get better. Dam, its exciting going up in stages for the first time, you'll be hooked

If your gunna buy a whole deadbolt, go for something like a deadbolt and knob combo, prbly save money, and you'll be set for lockpicking for a month or two. But yeah, deadbolts are good, plus its good to start/learn with the latch behind the door, gets you putting th correct tension on first go.

Dont forget you can go to flea markets and swap meets and pick up locks for 20c. I do this all the time, and have found locks every time I have gone so far. Well worth the effort.

I think he means "where do you find a kwikset in Australia? I have been looking for one for a very long time.".....

yonks is slang for a very long time where I live too, not sure about everyone else though..

I havn't been able to find one in brisbane either..

You can change the pins in just about any deadbolt out there. And almost every other kind of pin-tumbler lock.
