Wireless camera set-up

Postby horsefeathers » 5 Jan 2007 6:23

Hi
Ref - letterbox tool camera set-up

Due to a general cock-up and fault with my previous camera set up, I am looking for advice please on what is going wrong with my equipment.

I had a wireless spy camera working off a 9v battery, which when used with a wireless receiver, displayed the pics on my portable 5" lcd monitor. Long story but I had to replace both camera (plug got hot) and monitor (dropped off kitchen worktop). Both items were bought seperately thru ebay and both items work independently of each other. Camera works when plugged into main house tv, monitor receives av input from external source (and gets tv pic thru aerial). Plug them both together and I keep getting rolling screen on the monitor (a Kingavon TV67 5" lcd). I can make out that the receiver is tuned to the camera but the pic is unuseable as a LBT entry aid.

If anyone has pics of their set-up I would be grateful, or info on their own make/model/brand set-up, or can offer advice as to why my gear is wrong would be appreciated.

regards

It could be a matter of tuning it just a tad. Do the AV cables go directly from the receiver to the TV or are you using any kind of adapters?

Youve got somthing wrong somewhere and it does sound like the frequency of the camera doesnt match the screen, is there a 50hz switch on the monitor?

Is your 9v fully charged?

Is the ariel plugged in properly?

Other than that its hard to know without looking, it may be that the modulator on the camera unit needs a slight tweek,

Forget the wireless unit as its prone to interference just connect the camera straight to the tv with a lead. I had this problem and this eliminated it completely, it appears things like wiring and computers can interfere with the signals on the wireless unit.Lets face it they are only cheap so its not surprising really.

I should also add that when camera is connected and rolling starts, even upon removing the av lead the monitor continues to scroll rapidly without any signal being input. Even hitting the menu button gives a scrolling 'menu' picture. It is as if plugging the camera in flicks some sort of internal switch which cant be reset until another source (like playstation) is plugged in.

There appears no way of tweaking anything on the camera (cheap small square box - though it works fine when plugged into the house tv), or the monitor itself.

Anyone got any pics of their set-up?

Its a tweek on the inside of the reciever you would need to tweek,

Now youve described it more i think i know the problem,

You need to plug in and turn oin the camera before the screen or else the screen will not show the camera input and it will be a mostly black screen with white lines running across it traveling upwards on a diagonal,

May not be that but thats a common issue with a lot of simular items of equipment, it will only do it when the screen is on and then the camera turned on afterwards, make sure the camera is on fisrt and it should solve it,

I have a similar system as that descibed by horsefeathers. The camera plugs into a 9v battery and transmits to a receiver. C can you plug this type of camera directly into the AV input on a monitor and it still get a power feed?

ok, so you have a CCTV camera, a transmitter and a receiver? or is the camera/transmitter a tiny all-in-one unit?

I am not sure if you have the 2.4 Ghz wireless CCTV or the 434 Mhz or 900 Mhz versions. Most current 2.4Ghz have 4 channel to pick from, I wonder if you need to match up the frequency on both TX and RX to be the same.

Sometimes rolling lines mean there is a mis-match in the earth ground potential, but that shouldn't happen in a wireless setup.

Is there a way you can PM me a photo of your camera, it's leads, the transmitter and the receiver and their leads and switches? I can probably troubleshoot it via email.

after all.. that's what I do. I install CCTV.

poke around this link and tell me if any of their products are like what you are using:

Ha ha.....i think i may have twigged it.

In the worlds tiniest lettering, on the back of the camera, is the phrase NTSC. It appears i have been sold a model for the US market rather than the UK one which is PAL.

So as PAL and NTSC used different hz maybe that is why the screen rolls when I plug it into my PAL monitor.

I shall get the camera swapped and let you know!

I was trying to think of what that was called (NTSC and PAL)....I know that I had trouble with mine when the two devices didn't match up- I am sure that that is the problem.

Sorry, but the old screen went in with the rubbish, as I eventually decided, after hours of fiddleing, that it was never going to work again after dropping it (and as it only cost £18 third hand it didnt seem cost effective to try to get repaired)
