Medeco key duplication in Toronto

Postby microwsoftcanada » 6 Jan 2007 14:39

Hello,

Is there anyone in Toronto who can/will duplicate a medeco key that says "RESTRICTED" and "DO NOT DUPLICATE"?

I don't know who originally installed the lock and I do not have any card/documentation for the key/lock.

I am not familiar with the technology and don't understand why it can't be duplicated like any other key.

I was told by a locksmith that it could be easily duplicated in the U.S., is that correct?

It is stamped on one side with "PAT NO. 4,635,455" and on the other side with "B5509".

Your knowledge and expertise would be much appreciated.

Thanks

With stamps like restricted and do not duplicate it will be hard to get them copied, especially without a card or document. Medeco are considered high security for a reason, but good luck

Medeco will usually have the name of the authorized locksmith stamped right on the key. Look 'em up in the phone book. They're the ones you want to speak to.

How old is the key? It seems like the said patent is from 1985. If the patent is expired and the compatible blank is available from kaba-ilco, then any locksmith with an angle cut capable key machine can cut one for you. If it was a dedicated keyway Medeco issued to an organization it is not illegal to duplicate it, but ilco wouldn't have those proprietary blanks. You'll need to find a shop with an easy entrie or the like, custom blank milling machine.
