Too Much Tension, Perhaps?

Hey all, long time no see
Got my pick set awhile back, enjoyed it, put it away for awhile since I got real busy as of late, played with it again over the christmas season.

I was picking a 5 pin black and decker basic $10 door lock, and I encountered an amazing amount of problems trying to pick it, that thing took me literally over an hour to pick just one time, and I was wondering if maybe what was happening was that I was using too much tension. I tried raking the pins over and over...and over....ect; and would 4 out of 5 up in a jif and then the fifth was what I played with for over an hour. I would let it go and reset the pins and start over, and as always the 5th pin in the very back would get stuck and not go up. I jiggled and jiggled and got nowhere until...boom.. it luckily opened.

Any ideas?

experiment, try using very light tension the entire time you are picking, if that dont work switch over to a bit heavier tension and so forth, people dont think much about tension but it is very important most of the time. best bet would be to also try single pin picking it.

Yes I would try single pin picking it with light tension. Try to find the binding pin as well. Then slowly go on the the others. It is possible this lock has security pins so look up how to pick spools and you should learn how to do it eventually.
