Making an electric pick myself

Postby Evilworm » 10 Dec 2006 9:47

I just want to share my little experience.

You have seen the electric toothbrush called Oral-B? Well, I thought it could be a nice electric pick instead. So, I clipped the brush of one of the extra tips. Inserted a homemade small pick into the arm inside and glued the arm and pick together. So, now I got an electrick lockpick that works. And if I need more types of picks, I can buy extra brushes in the store cheap. And I can switch picks easily. Tried it on 1 lock, and got it open in seconds.

I will make a post later with photos so you all get the idea here.

I'm curious to see pictures. Typically an electric pick gun would be just a flat piece to rest against all pins (that vibrates) to dynamically launch the driver pins up, like a bump key. I'm not sure why you would need other pick types.

That site, inventgeek.com, is actually a really cool site. Have you seen the latest project, the USB airsoft turret?

I think he was talking about the Oral-B electric flosser it vibrates up and down real fast and at 9 volts a little too fast I think. The best electric homemade pick I have is made from an electric shaver the speed it about right and it has a lot more power than an Oral-B.

That electric flosser in the link above is called the Hummingbird. Oral-B make several different types of flossers and brushes which will ultimately depend on the movement of the device and the outcome of the pick inside the lock.

Evilworm, please post a pic of the one you made.
