You honestly cant find anything about the jack knife or electric picks?

Im sorry but youeither have a problem or you simply havent searched as they are probably 2 of the most common questions we get,

The jack knife is utter crap, not for a beginner by a long way and someone experianced simply laughs at them, leave them well alone and save your money,

Electric picks are for lockies, if your a hobby picker do not bother, make one if you want but certainly dont waste money buying one,
If you are hell bent on buying one stay well away from the SO one and look at the HPC one as the cheapest one to look at but as i say if your not a lockie dont buy one as you dont need one, wont use it and will just be an expensive waste of money,

Honestly hone your search fu as i can bring up pages and pages of results answering your questions in a matter of seonds,

southord jack knife set

Postby gostone » 9 Jan 2007 9:59

I would suggest you go with a traditional set of picks. I bought one about 2 months ago, and rarely use it. I keep it on my key chain, but find it is not as usefull as my picks.

Wow UWSDWF. That didn't take you all but 20 seconds. Whats with the change of heart? :P

lunchb0x, please welcoem to Lockpicking101, your one-stop shop for learning how to PICK locks. You should know that electric pick guns are not meant to pick locks, but to pop them open. We do not pop open locks here, hense, we do not own pick guns. Any questions?

Jack knife picks are to standard picks, what homeopathy is to medicine. Save yourself the money and time and get standard picks, much better feedback.

I've got the Southern Specialties jack knife set and although it is well made it isn't particularly useful. I've used it a few times and although it doesn't come loose like is commonly reported with the SO thumbscrew it just doesn't give you much control. The feel of the pins is largely lost.

SO and HPC make a range of smaller sets which are well-suited to carrying around. You can get these in Australia via www.lockpicks.com.

Ive cleaned this thread up, for those that participated in the stuff thats been removed you have been spoken to about it and those that havent had contact please treat that as a lucky escape

The south ord jacknife is renown for being bad, the picks come loose and become unuseable, the effect of picking is hindered as you have a big weight and sized handle on the other end of the pick blade, some styles have clip in tension wrenches that go walkies,

If i remember correctly Kaotik made a very nice homemade version, finished well and looks the part with reports of it working well, maybe look into that,

Personally i do know what you mean as a lockie i dont want to be out without any picks at any point so i have a small 'normal' set that i keep in the mobile phone pocket of my coat, a few extra tension wrenches and its as good as my big sets,

newsparkling

Postby raimundo » 20 Jan 2007 10:28

if you look at newsparkling website, the four items at the top of the page marked new, have a very interesting and quite different jacknife pick set that i found interesting, the picks are three graduated hooks, and a type of half diamond that has saddles on the tip and on the pick point. anybody gets one, or even contact them and gets the price and shipping info please tell me about it. I don't do much cold calling email, since so many sites use things like whats it called, internet express where they want all your personal info like name address most intimate sexual fantasy etc.

I had a thought last night of what may be an expensive solution but less of a toy is to get the credit card set, still a gimick but at least they are real picks that are individual, even better make your own set that are better,
