simple legal question, pick shipping

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

simple legal question, pick shipping

Postby pernjuke » 9 Jan 2007 11:08

This question have probably been asked before, but I can't find it anywhere, so.

I looked up the law and it says that lockpicks can only be mailed to "bonafide" locksmiths. Also where I live, (maryland) it is illegal to possess lockpicks "with the intent" of using them for illegal purposes. Now, I don't really have any lcoksmith credentials, but Im not going to use them to break into peoples houses either. So will I get I any trouble if I go ahead and order the lockspicks? And do places that sell lockpicks care if I'm not really a locksmith?

thx

ignore the bonafide locksmith thing....

but illegal only with intent means you gotta be doing something bad with or being sketchy while carrying them picks...
Cheers

from what has been said on training videos and the like.. the being a locksmith thing only actually requires you to own the lockpicks in good faith, you dont need to be certified or anything. Just dont carry them around with you and ensure that your point gets across that it is a hobby/sport if your house were to ever be raided without good reason, heaven forbid.
I dont know specifics, especially with concern to the US, but all of the training videos that have discussed illigalities and the such have been created by US hobbyists anyway.

This measure is taken into account on most websites that you order from by either getting you to fill in a form, or to electronically sign a document stating that you are buying these picks in all good faith and will not be used for any purpose outside of the law.
