Postby hilltop79 » 10 Jan 2007 19:23

hi guys i have been picking for a few months now and ive gotton pretty good but i met my match today when i was givin 2 AMERICAN LOCKS SERIES 700 and a lunch bet i couldnt open it within a week to try. now hers is what i know i have taken one lock and drilled out the cylender to examin the pins,, all the lower pins are serraded and the upper pins are spools , my jaw dropped i said to myself i think im gonna ow him a lunch.
Here is what i tryed, i tryed to rake it with a hook and snake and tryed to pick each on and even a pick gun this lock wont give.. is there any specific tecqneiq to pick these kind of extreme security pin locks..

Did you not have a key to open the lock and remove the cylinder retaining plate? If you have keys to them, there's no reason to drill them to get the cylinder out. Can you post a photo of your drill work and stuff? I want to compare it to my 700 and see if they changed something.

Thanks and good luck picking,

no i did not have the keys nor did the guy who gave them to me thats why he just gave them to me so i drilled out the rivet that retaines the cylender on the bottom and the cylender just fell out after i pulled off the steel drill guard plate.. but here is a photo i found that is exactly what i found in my lock

hey, that photo is one I took of my lock. =) how do you pick that lock? I don't know I haven't been able to keep my tension wrench from camming out. The American Locks are the only locks without a sidebar that I can't open.

yet.

yea i just found a photo of the same pins i didnt know it was yours lol. my camera batteris are dead.. i cant figure out the right tension on my lock lets put it this way if i put the tool in the lock and let gravity pull the wrench down the number 2 pin jams bad and if i lift the wrecnh i can push it in this lock has such good tolorances i guess it is unpickable because i have not seen any posts of anyone picking this lock witouth desrtoying it

VERY LIGHT tension will take out that lock
watch the spools cause they will cause the serrated pins to re-set.
I have a vid of myself picking an 1105 and it's almost identical to those pins on that one pic.

that lock is a hard one to crack it took me 3 days and a broken pick to get mine the first time.

Good luck

tension

Postby raimundo » 12 Jan 2007 12:40

the best tension tool for this type of lock is wide, one of the wider windshield wiper stiffeners is a very good choice. do not make the blade go more than half the length of the keyway into the lock, this tensor can adequately apply to the plug and yet leave manouver room in the keyway. the handle to the tensor need not be more than 3 inchs, you will want to pick the lock normally or rake it, then holding medium tension, go in and test the various pins with a hook, if forcing one of them up causes the cylinder plug to press back against tension, thats a good sign, do this until it sets and the bottom pin is loose then look for othes like it and do the same, you may find that doing another one sometimes will cause pins already set to fall, no big deal, just reset them. when the plug is counterrotating against tension, you are doing the right thing and should allow it to counter rotate until the pin sets. if you are doing the security pins like this, just keep doing it, and you will soon have the lock open, there is another thing about american locks to be aware of, when you think that you have set all the pins but the plug dosent turn, get a small screwdriver and apply a little bit more force, before dropping the tension, these locks are sometimes just jammed and they do have a spring that counterrotates the tension. this is the cause of the final resistance even when the cylinder has been picked. Use 3 in 1 oil on the cylinder, this also helps.
