Cost of insurance?

Postby 77luke » 1 Jan 2007 5:50

I know that this question is kind of broad- but what does the average insurance cost in relation to doing lockouts for vehicles?

Short answer: talk to an insurance broker. They'll get you covered.

Basically, you need:

Vehicle insurance. get you to the job.

Liability insurance: for when you break something (and you will, opening cars)

you should have your tools and such insured against theft (typically different than your vehicle insurance)

it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a bond, makes you look a little more professional.

What is a bond in this meaning? Is it some kind of license? English is not my primary language.

a bond is a guarantee that you are an honest person. It means that you are financially invested in keeping good to your word.

The terms set out in the bond form describe what you can and cannot do. You pay money for this bond if you do the things that you're not allowed to, you lose that money.

It's more complicated than that, but those are the basics.

Search for Surety Bond for more bonding info.

As far as insurance. A general liability policy is all you need. The smallest commercial liability policy is either a $125,000 or $250,000 I think.

I've got $1,000,000 for about $300 per year with Allstate. Allstate has a "Locksmith Policy" that is more suited for our business than a standard policy. Not all agents are familiar with it, so you might have to get them to call someone for help.

I have been looking into insurance for my own start up buisness. My agent that I have my home and vehicles said they do not cover what I want to do, but suggested I check out www.insurancemarketplace.com.

I hope this helps.

You may find that you can get a discount by joining a professional organization... ALOA... or my case, TAOL.
