Sorry I used the wrong word I ment a key padlock. I'm not trying to shim a cylinder like that, but I didn't know you could do that like it shows in the guide.

are we talking a keyed padlock like the master no. 3? or a keyed padlock like the masterlock combination locks from gym class, and this one has a keyway on the back?

post a picture of the lock and we can tell you if its shimmable or not.

Shimming a padlock

Postby Bob M » 14 Jan 2007 2:44

Have not tried shimming yet, but have you tried to lubricate the shackle? Make sure that the parts are able to move easily. Tri-Flow, light oil, wd 40 (I know it can gum up)-anything to let the parts slide.

Good luck

like he said

like he said about lube, and then you could press in on the shackle to releave spring pressure it puts on the locking dog from the popup spring. while trying to shim of course. these locks have two locking dogs, probably one is deeper in the hole than the other as they probably bypass eachother when pulled in. Generally I only recommend shimming for combo padlocks where its really easy and useful as there is no picking them, these other master locks will easily yield to a pick so whats the point.

ok, that will be considerably harder to shim. much MUCH easier to pick. as stated, usually you only shim combo padlocks (with the dial) otherwise you will have many problems.
