question about buying key blanks

Postby jimmysmith » 15 Jan 2007 5:31

I went to my local locksmith company, right down my street, and asked if he would sell me some key blanks... he told me sure..for the price of a cut key... i thought that was kinda messed up... anyway. I know you can buy blanks online, but where else can i get them. Can i pick up a bow of kw1's at home depot...or true value hardware? or where?

KeyProducts, CLK supplies, HLFlake, etc. All of these suppliers are out there and will sell in 50pks and 250pks to anyone.

Appreciate all help.
So at a hardware store like ace true value can I buy a box 50 like sold online?
Do you think they will give me a deal on some blanks or do you think they will charge me like I got a key cut,,,,,$1.50 or $2.00 a pop?

Does home depot sell boxes of blanks?

Hardware stores are going to charge you cut key price no matter what. Just check out the stores I listed or pay cut key prices at ace, etc.

Call up a locksmith and ask. Over in NZ, they quoted me between $1-1.50 per key blank. When I went into those key cutting/ shoe repair shops and asked for their price, they gave only a dollar or so off a cut key price.

Ace will sell these at less than cut price, at least in my area they do.

That is good to hear but it still wont come close to the $.12 each for bulk buys from a supplier.

Home Depot sells boxed blanks in their online pro store, along with key machines and pinning kits.

What about HE Mitchell up there in OR? Aren't they over in Portland? They are a member of the PLS Group.
