Hello, All.....I have a couple of mortice cylinders from a class I took, one is really driving me nuts. It is a 5 pin Yale keyway, using a y1e 999n blank. Groove at / below pins is at a 60 or so degree angle, and tight.
Having no luck picking. Only a diamond seems to fit. I have keys, so can see where the pins should be, but picking is a no go.
Any suggestions? (I've been 'practicing' on this for many hours)
Thanks, Bob

I have one in 'The Box'. Its tough. I managed picking it with a small half diamond. There are lots of tasty spools in them.

UWSDWF- Thats the key/way, the "hump' on the right side of the M is tough to clear. I'll try the hooks. I see one has a narrow shaft, it may clear better. I can see where the long arch of the Falle picks would come in handy. I'll have to fake it.
quickpicks...Thanks, I'll cut a diamond down if I don't have any luck, I pulled a pin, down to 4, may go to 3, to see what I need to do, no spools in this one.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Step one:
shim it open, tear it down.
Step two:
One stack at a time, feel it out. Once your proficient with one stack, go to two.
I do this with every new keyway I get until the feel is down, then start mucking with the security pins, high/low combos etc.
Keep the 'shroom pins out until you've got the mechanical action down.
keys, we don't need no stinking keys!

sand the square edges of that pick down till they are rounded, it will help also visualize the inside of that keyway, whereever there is a pin drilling the warding is opened up, so if the hook is under the pin the warding will only be acting on the pickshaft, in the places between the drillings where the wardings can appear, this is why it is important to round off those pickshafts,
