im a new picker and suck at the thing but i think logicly

Materials:
-anvil
-hammer
-a durible concret slab(sidewalks are perfect and if allowed chainsaw blade files)
-a 1/2 cm thick 5 in. nail
-and a lot of time and pateince

1)hammer down the nail to a 1 mm thickness(or thinner) on the anvil .
2)file down the nail width to about 2mm wide
3)use sharp corners toshape the pick and the u have it
The future is a past that hasn't happened yet, and everyone knows that what you see is what you get

bulldog clip:

Take the wire sides off the actuall clip.
Bend one side through the centre (mirrored edge) so the edges that hold into the clip are side by side: Tension Wrench.
Bend the other side into a hook.

Tweezers

Postby acidjam » 4 Jan 2007 10:37

Take a pair of tweezers and bend or cut it in two.Bend the pointy end of one half 90 degrees into a tension wrench, and the pointy end of the other half into a pick. The second half of course has to be bent "in line" so that it remains thin and usable as a pick.
I did this yesterday, and picked 3 padlocks of different sizes in just over a minute. So until I receive the set I ordered this does the job just fine :)

heres a pick i made from the inside of a lever arch file!

Image

the part shown above has 2 sprung steel bars, one i made into the pick and the other is shown below it.

to insert the pick into the handle i drilled the hole using the spare bar as a drill bit so its a perfect fit.

a pair of glasses, take the earpieces, one can be turned into a rake or whatever, and the other one can be a tension wrench

You'd either need a very big gun or a lot of ammo. A hammer might be more effective, really.

You could strip an electrical plug (not the outlet) steal one of the tongs and use that as a very crude torque wrench. A bent fork tong would probably be slim enough for a hook pick.

I have a 12 g does that count?

I take the wire, break off about 8 inches and fold it in half. I then fold it back about an inch down. Now I have a tension wrench. I take another 4 or 5 inches of the wire, straighten it, hold it in the shape of a hook pick and presto...I open my door.
Having read this I now think one of these mat's is almost as bad as hiding the key under it! Just kidding, that was very resourceful actually.

don't think anyones mentioned under wire in bras.

the spring in an old VHS tape could be used. the same kind of springs can also be found in tape desks, CD/DVD roms

wire from the grill/cage round an electric fan.

bed springs.

hands on a clock.

good old thermite if u have something rusty, something aluminum and a hand file.

First I must say I am sometimes too creative and have been nick named MacGyver by quite a few people.

Yes you beat me to that one. The first idea that popped into my head is an under wire from a bra. Most are stainless spring steel that makes an excellent pick but, you may also get unlucky and only end up with a fiber wire.
My other involves a fork a hammer or vise grips and file. Flatten the fork tines with the hammer or vise grips (Using the vise grips as vise grips not a hammer) break off all the tines but one use a broken tine as a wrench and the remaining tine as a pick.
A pair of tweezers can be used in the same manner.
Eyeglass screwdrivers with possibly less coaxing.

The center wire from a coaxial cable (stiff copper wire) can be used if you are very gentle

I have found that an altoids tin when folded and cut properly can be use as a pick or shim

If you or someone who is willing to give up their makeup kit there are many items that haven’t been mentioned and could be used...
Examples: metal handled makeup brushes, eyelash curlers, barrettes , hair clip (Not a hair pin) cuticle scrapers / shavers…
Well I guess have done my part-Dev

"Excuse me ma'am but I seem to have locked myself out. I wonder if you would take your bra off for me?"

Hey, why not? Stranger things have worked.
Nothing is so embarrassing as watching someone do something that you said couldn't be done.

That photo by seejim shows an interesting handle, did you pound that metal into the wood before shapeing the pic, or is that some kind of plasticwood handle?
