UWSDWF, I find some of your replies absolutely lovely.
It's an ABUS 158/50.

it's all about the barebones, nothing iritates me more then when someone asks me to do something simple and gives me their life story with it.
ie; could you pick up some milk vs. well this morning I had a bowl of cereal and realized that we had run out of milk and then i passed by the convience store but the milk there had a short shelf date and so i thought about getting some at the supermarket but thats a ways out of my way so could you pick up some milk?
I mean $%@& did i need all that info to pick up the milk?
Now if you were asking me to jam a screw into my pee hole well then give me a little background info.... </rant>
kinda ironic isn't it?

Is there a thread here referencing the shim between dials method? I've never thought of this but have seen some guitar cases ruined by the little "user codeable" combination lox. Thanx gentlemen for any help.

50p is nothing compared to it's retail price.
They go for 25-ish euro.
Also, I'd be surprised if you could decode the thing with shims.
And I agree with Hurri, no matter whether it's feasable or not, trying yourself is by far the best way to learn something.
Also, UWSDWF, you're spot on.
Nobody needs the background information, keeping things relevant is essential.
Yours,
Jordy

Actually I would be surprised if you couldn't decode it with a shim. I have (or had at one pt) the 155, 160 and 165 series combination locks and they are easily decoded. Due to that, I didn't bother to buy the other series. Now 3 padlocks isnt exactly all encompassing but I'd think ABUS would have used a similar system for their other locks.

oh yeah, i sussed it out last night!
as i was poking about with a shim i noticed each dial had a large flat spot, i lined them all up but nothing happened. just kept rotating all 4 dials at once and it opened!
