ok guys, heres the deal, a guy is selling the same padlock as this, and I have 1 day to buy it off him.

Image

Does anyone own one of these? was wondering if I should buy. I want to buy it for the pyramid learning thing, so has anyone got one of these, and is it possible to remove the pins and get into the lock and take pins out with ease? I have been told by the guy that the lock is rekeyable, but can you access the top pins also to remove for picking practice? What type of security pins do they have inside the locks, and how many of these pins are in there?

I know its gunna be hard getting this info in one day, but I seriously need it before then. Thanks guys, appreciate your help as always

Thanks guys,

yes! I have one of these!

see this post:

it seriously sucks as a lock that's usefull to lock things with, but you can re-key it - under the shackel there's a screw and you need a small allen key to undo the side.

and yep, chucklz is right.

I got mine new for $25 I definately wouldn't pay any more than that.

oh, sorry and to answer the other questions you had, from what I can tell, there are at least some serrated pins (both top and bottom), I can't yet tell the difference between serrated, spool and mushroom top pins, but it certainly feels like there's something wacky going on inside.

how much is he selling it for?

If it's less than five bucks, I'd probably buy it. I wouldn't pay any more than that. If you're just looking to pyramid learn, get a Kwikset. You'll want to learn how to properly rekey something anyway, and doing it on a Kwikset is easy enough. Plus you won't have to goof around with security pins.

no no, I want to do the pyramid learning thing with security pins, not regular pins. I want to include more and more, as I havent had the chance to pick a lock with full security pins. I think Ive mastered regular pins (although, there is always one or two locks that just dont wanna open)

Thanks for you help guys I was gunna pay bout $25AUS, so thanks for your opinions. I appreciate it. I prbly wont bother.

Cheers

The actual padlock looks to be at least 3 generations prior to the current version, and most likely is at least 30 years old. I would wager on it being a good deal older than that. Looks to be A keyway as well. I cant tell from your photo if its 5 or 6 pins, although I would suspect 6. A 5 pin lock would be nice, simply from the novelty standpoint. I would say with a fair degree of certainty that there are no security pins in this lock. With no control key, this lock could become a bit of a project, like, just to attempt to pick control or whatever. If the price is right...... read cheap.... and you like a challenge, go for it.

yeh, looks like a 5 pin by the key. Just thought it may be high security by ther brand, but I suppose all brands have crapper models to keep up in competition.

It does appear to be a 6 pin if you look closely at the key.....

I looked at the key really closely and would also bet that it is a 6 pin lock but that is just a guess.

Look technik, i have spool pins alright, Look you wanna send me a lockwood you own and i will fill it full of spools. I mean its really not going to be worth it for you.... Because i unfortunately dont even touch a lock for someone else for less than $10. I could sell you five spool pins for $5 though... What ever you want.
