New Standard 2000 Breakdown

Postby Lucky1406 » 19 Jan 2007 3:16

Hey there, I just thought that I'd make a breakdown of a New Standard 2000 Padlock. I've had it for a while now, and couldn't pick it for the longest time, then I just got it today. I don't know why I couldn't get it before, I think that I was just having a hard time finding a tension wrench that didn't bind the cylinder. But this is my first breakdown, so be nice. As you can see, this lock is set up with a master key system for many different levels of keys. If you have any questions, let me know.

Here is the lock:

Here is a top view:

This is the inside, after the cylinder has been pulled out:

Here is the full break down, rather simple design:

And here is a close up of the pins, as you can see, there are no security pins, just a lot of thin pins for a master key system.

Any questions? Let me know what you think,
Nick

IT!

hahaha, here's my breakdown. I hate you :P Only thing I have up on you is that I disassembled the double ball mechanism as well. Nick has the only other one of these locks I've ever seen, so it was a cool moment when he busted it out at the LSI meeting the other day and said "hey, have you ever seen a lock like this?"

Here are my pictures:

I got a text from him earlier today saying "finally got it, I'm going to post a breakdown" and so I rushed home and started picking like a fiend. Then, after half an hour of picking, I grabbed a bump key Zeke sent me to test way back when, and 4 bumps later it was open. :P I'm actually kind of pleased with that, as I've only ever bumped 1 lock previously, and that one was a lock used to demonstrate bumping. Anyway. It's a standard SC1/4 keyway, so I rekeyed it to fit my old work key and now I have a key for my lock. :) Pretty happy.

Very cool, happy to hear that you got it open, and that you rekeyed it. I just got my woody pin kit in, and I'm thinking about rekeying mine, though I don't have a schlage key to rekey it to. Although since I don't have a key, At least that way I can make it a useable lock. and Schuyler, haha, Mines better cus I pollished my lock, its all pretty, lol
Nick

p.s. How did you get the double ball mechanism out?

smack the lock on the table with shackle up. Keep in mind that you have to rewind the spring on the piece that operates the locking balls.

I neglected to smack, but used a pair of pliers to remove the piece right in the center of the top of the body of the lock. Getting it back in was annoying.

Zeke - I used the 10 cut schlage key with a 10 offset. Worked shockingly well. Squelchtone and TOOOL boston have the rest of the set, don't know if they've gotten back to you on testing.

Glad to hear the keys worked well. Most cases I have better luck with the larger offsets but all work well in certain cases.

Thanks for the reminder, I will test some more this weekend.
