Thanks
I had lost that link when it first came out in 2005.
Its not a bad one to refer people to when you are introducing the topic of
our hobby.
ABC has a bit more cred than some of the hacker sites with uptight establishment types.
Unfortuntely, some of the better articles published, like the in Wall Street Journal, have isssues of being considered "paid content" and are not subposed to be freely linked to.

"Varjeal asked that his real name not be used, partly because he doesn't know how law enforcement and the public will feel about his hobby, but also because he fears retribution from the locksmithing community."
Very nice...i like it... ....but may happen something to you if people know who are ya` ?

"We're not for pointing out physical security flaws to the general public," said David Lowell, ALOA's associate executive director. "Just like I'm sure the Atomic Energy Commission would not endorse the Web sites that tell you how to build a nuclear bomb. It's the same thing."
What planet is that moron living on ?
He compares building a nuclear bomb to picking a lock, silly silly man !!!!!
That idiot aside pretty good article

I just coppied that. You know these son of a btiches anger me to know point.
Infact as a locksmith, statements like that make me as well as everyone with alockie cert. an arrogant bastard.
Hoenstly I am not reading this bulshit anymore, it angers me and makes me feel disgraced to see that hobbiests and and normal peoples morals (the same people who have locks protecting there houses to supply more educated and opnemined opinions.
It goes to show that these peoplew ill never change, they think there lock guru's and there statement is final. Let another lockie or someone call me a criminal, I am breaking there jaw. I had enough of this non sence and a mediocre attempt to try and disenvow us as humans F8ck them.

wow newbie. getting all emotional on us. Hope you don't get into trouble for your language cheating.
I think we'll be mainstream soon enough if the media keeps giving us coverage.

Actually when i wrote that i was p/o'ed and in a hurry, So it was by accident, haha if onyl i could bypass locks without trying haha
No the article was good, I liked Varjeals points, I jsut stoped as soon as that bastard started playing Mr. Supreme lockie.
All aside its cool, but like i said before were going to sh9t our selves for going public.
No matter how hard we try.. well me none at all, I could care less what someone thinks of me. Were almost like the "queerasfolk" crowd for sake. Why dont we just make Hobby Picker shirts that say "WERE HERE AND WERE PROUD!!!!!" on the front and " I'd Bump it!!!!!" on the back. What ever happened to just pickin locks comin on here and learning having a good chat with good mates I have known for awhile.
Now its OMFG HEHEHE LOOK!!! WERE IN THE NEWS what a joyous day!!! Then, 5 seconds later we flame noobs for spaming bumpkey threads( I do and love it) and Make bold proud statements to those "I have a pepsi machine i need to openit quck" threads of how where not criminals.
So before I get flamed, or another Great LOCK POWER AND PRIDE! statement. I will add I think this palce is great, the people gave there time to teach me, as i have helped others (I hope) Met great people from all over the world. Frankly I am extract of varjeals interview, seems like a neat expiernce.
But honestly, if you think you ever going to be concidered a legit hobby, forget it. Anyone i ever talk to about locks thinks I'm a crimal, or they just don;t care. Simple, its life. Deal with it.
Now Flame me

Interesting article. I can see where some may be wary of people using lockpicking as a hobby. I have always been interested in this profession. I remenber taking a few lessions from a locksmithing school about 45 years ago. I never followed through with that, but this site has rekindled my interest. And I'm 60 years old. It really is a good feeling when you overcome a lock.

Varjeal, way to go. I thought it was a great article.
I sure understand the frustration some of us have over the public's (sometimes) misconception of our hobby. But what you have to think about is that change...always...happens...slowly. But what we've got here is change. Real change. Thanks to folks like Varjeal, and all of us really, the mainstream media is running articles on us that are pretty balanced. This is huge. Sure there will be set-backs and sure there will be times when it just looks like the same old world but I'm sayin'
The times, they are a changin'.
Nothing is so embarrassing as watching someone do something that you said couldn't be done.
