I am fourteen, and I just started lock picking 2 nights ago. At first it was for fun, but then I wanted to help teach people about security. I am a magician So I usaly draw a crowd. I work at theYMCA. But when I showed them me picking security box with a paperclip and a sardine can-opener, to teach them not to rely on locks, they thought I had a fake lock... I cant show them by picking a door because that is illeagal...

What do I do?

p.s. I have made great progress these first couple days, I can usualy get in in under 20 seconds on my front door

well first off, welcome to the site.
2nd, dont pick locks you rely on, you may end up damaging them!!!
take some time to look around the site and make sure you use the SEARCH button.
its really exciting when you pick your first lock and you want to show everyone but picking a security box in front of people is a bit irresponsible, especially if the box belongs to where you work. if anything goes missing from the box in future, your the no1 suspect....
as for using a paperclip and a sardine can-opener, they will open basic locks but you may want to consider investing in a set of bought picks or even make your own, theres plenty of info and templates on this site.

if they dont believe you, go to a hardware shop and buy four of five different branded padlocks.

Practice on these until you can get them constantly and hand them round your audience and get them to choose which one to pick...

Make suer you get respectable brands, over here it will be lockwood and chubb etc, differs were u are. It should make the audience trust you a bit more if you have a variety of "good" locks, and generraly padlocks are hard to tamper with unless they have removable cores...

thanks alot, and to the first poster; the security box is a 6x6x3in box that is ABLE to be nailed to the wall. Plus I do have a nice homemade set, The objects I use though I try to get from them to help explain how simple it is to manipulate a lock with every day objects.
