I once successfully made a pick from a fondue-fork, and I even picked a couple of basic padlocks with it. Unfortunatly it broke, but I might be able to find one of the other forks from the same fondue-set.

going back a while ago you can open up a lock using a gun. They did do it in myth busters and although you cant scratch a pad lock you can anihalate a deadbolt lock using a shotgun or a high power magnum.

You could probably make a really basic pick from a badge pin. It would be cool to shape a pen knife blade into a pick than youd have your own homebrew jackife pick .

Spare key from keyring, round file, bit of time...

Remove key from key ring, file bottom ward off if key doesn't fit in lock, file all pin locations down to the first ward, file shoulder, file tip, bump key!!

yeah... the chances of you having a key that fits in the lock at all may be slim to none, but it would work...

This is pretty far out there, but I was wondering if it was possible to bump pins with air pressure.

I think I read somewhere about doing that. Anyone know anything about this type of picking? If its even real?

I had thought about the air pressure before too. but you would have
to cut it off fast enough that it didnt shove the bottom pins up into the shearline.

ok..... simple half diamond
made from wire prongs from a "FRO-pick",
(and someone to explain to the white folks what a fro-pick is.)
bend the last few mm of the tip into a triangle
make the tiny bend by inserting the wire into the tiny lubrication hole
on the bottom of some locks.

make a tension wrench out of 7-8 strands of wire stolen from a length
of CAT5 cable and superglue as a hardener.

to make a half-diamond or lifter:
use some of those nice $1 chicken scisors to cut up one of the aluminum
AOL cases everybody got in the mail last year.
make 2-3 layers and glue em together for strength
(would not try a rake though)

again a half diamond...
cut it out of paper.... add a thin layer of superglue to JUST ONE SIDE!
(so you can pick it up without it drooping)
better yet.... make it out of a plastic sandwich bag!!! EVEN THINNER!!!
now that its hard enough to work with....
pick it up and wrap it tightly with very VERY thin copper speaker wire.
yaknow... the kind thats thin as hair..or thinner.
now it looks like a high pressure tank wrapped in carbon fiber!

and epoxy it to harden..... will be VERY VERY strong.... and thin.

I find fro pix on the sidewalk, they come a variety of sizes and have different lengths of hardend round wire with a chrome or nickel plate. one end of the round wire is rounded, the other end is set in the plastic handle, you can release them from the plastic handle by hammering on the plastic until is loosens. I havent made anything out of them yet, but because the wire is hardened, I put it in my metal stock til I find out what I'll make of it.
a fro pic is a comb for afro or jewfro hair.

Ummm, I'm new to the forums and I have read all the stickies and rules so I post this with the rules in mind and for good of the forum...

DO NOT ATTEMT TO SHOOT THROUGH A LOCK MECHINISM.

I realize that most of the posts about shooting out locks were sarcastic and not meant to be taken seriously. I happen to own several firearms, including the ubiquitous 12 guage shotgun, and I teach firarms safety and responsable ownership. Regardless of what you may see on the television, either in movies, or in Myth-Busters; there is a very specific angle, type of projectile, and method for door-breaching as used by military and police departments to safely (relatively...) by-pass a locked door.

It is my understanding that lock by-passing and forced entry techniques are not discussed in the open forums. I have posted this to strongly discourage anyone from taking their trusty scatter-gun down to the range with a few locks and a camera to post how dangerously stupid they are.

Again, this is a warning for people with no common sense, not the general community gathered in LP101. I have learned a lot of very usefull tips and appreciate the adult level of the vast majority of threads. This post is neither intended to insult, nor offend, any of the previous posters, only to inform future one in this thread.

yet another good idea by me this takes roughly 1-2 minutes and some other noise as a distraction (items needed:
1.decently weighted hammer again
2. flat head screwdriver)

i would say its deffinatly possible. other than picking another one of my hobbies is paintball. and since i play paintball i found it neccesary to learn about air valves electronics, and the like. to do this you would have to make a blank with air passages and a pnuematic barb on the end run a hose from the barb to an electronic solenoid. connect the solenoid to a paintball gun circuit board(they have adjustable on times ranging from 1 to around 20 milliseconds) and bam pnuematic bump key

I would think the difference between the tension of the copper springs and the steel springs, and the weights of each pin (according to their size), and the wear in the lock would make the pressure of even a very finely tuned pneumatic pick gun unsuitable. It's a neat idea, but like all neat ideas, it exposes a lot of new problems. How do you know when a top pin has cleared the shear line? How much is too much pressure, leaving all of the pin stacks thrust unevenly across the shear line? Does it inflate balloons to proper animal twisting capacity? These are all question to which I have no clue how to answer.
