I cannot identify the following lock. there are no markings or anything. It has an sc1 keyway and can be bumped using the schlahe bump key.

At first I thougt they were schlages but the 7,8, and 9 pins will not fit. The sit way beyone the shearline.

Anyhelp would be appriciated. Thanks, for following photographs I hope it helps.

Jitter

Sorry about all the pictures but wanted to make it clear as I could.

The sizes are:

7: .270
8: .285
9: .300

I confirmed all three with a dial caliper. All are workin on the .15 spacing.

Thanks..................Jitter

Schlage keyway.. a schlage "c" fits in .. aftermarket cylinder .. notice the pot metal body.
Usually found on new installations..not to be confused with a genuine schlage mortise cylinder , that is normally solid brass and never has a chromed plug.

So what kind of cylinder might it be and what kind of pins might I use to pin it? Would I use kwikset for them?

You would want to use schlage pins.

he just said before the schlage pins wont fit. i am pretty baffled at this point, because the plug is pretty obviously an sc1 plug and should take schlage pins.

pinning

Postby Spike666 » 21 Jan 2007 20:48

Itr looks like an aluma lite or doromatic temp core from an alum. door... it is schlace after market china. I got a bucket full of sc1 and y1 their crap...
anyway pin with schlage pins only... if the plug isnt .509 or close then the plug is undersized or the drill points arent deep enough. so pinn with sch standard pinning just do not use deep depths.
get another brass mortise for 8 15 dollars that is good.

I run into this a lot when re-keying knockoffs. I use a universal pinning kit and I just start dropping in pins until I find the right length.

no worries. I am just using them to practice master keying so if I can only go to a depth of 6 that is cool. Just like kwickset. I was just confused on it seeming to be a schlage but not.

The plug looks like chromed plastic to me. My spidey senses tingle that this would probably be best pinned with Kwikset pinning. Check the spacing to make sure it's definitely Schlage spacing and not Kwikset.

Yeah, let me know how those kwikset pins work with a schlage key.

I don't think you will be able to combinate it by number that way.

Those are cheap POS cylinders and like someone else said, probably Armalite. We collect those every day.

A lot of times the pin chambers are not drilled thru the lands in the plug so nothing over a #5 pin will drop in below the shear line. You can either drill it out deeper or just play with shallow cuts until you find something better to use.
