This new sidebar wafer lock is due for the US soon....
This lock seems to operate on the U-Change expired patent.
Can you pick the lock using the change key hole?

I have seen pictures of the lock but never handled one in person so I cannot comment.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

It doesn't appear so because it requires the original key for the to change the key. I do see a problem though with the design, if you pick it to the original key cut then turn it half way then insert the change key thing, then turn the cylinder without a key in it you wouldn't need a key at all. Just a screwdriver. Cool idea though.

from the diagrams I have seen the u change "wafer" only has 1 gate, and no false gates. so with each key wafer that is picked the change tool will go in 1 gate?

Just when the bump key scare came around, and we thought people might actually spend the money on high security locks, weiser does this!

Wow, this seems like a real security problem!

Postby gostone » 22 Jan 2007 14:11

Looks like a very easy system to bypass, you can pick it in the traditional way, insert the change tool, then presto, you can key it to your own ksy of choice!
Has anyone tried picking these?

"The most secure residential lockset on the market"

Really, Weiser? ... Really?

Did anyone else notice what key the lady handed that worker when she was leaving her house? Hahahaha. Sorry Weiser, there's no comparison.

This is a 5 wafer sidebar lock, like a gm 6 cut.

So which is better: this or Rielda?

I'm beginning to think the one in this thread is the better, as at least with this, there is no possibility of losing your control key (Rielda gold key), and no pretence that the rekeying tool is anything special.
