in my pick set i have 3 tension wrenches, a soft, med and firm with 2 ends one straight and one twisted, a few rakes -short and long, diamond pics, hooks, single and double ball, a few arrow extractors, a few screw type extractors, a old a-1 plug spinner, my favorite tool i have had it for years, all in a double fold leather puoch...

my next investment will be in thos computer generated picks, they look pretty good. have never used one but i want to try.. bill

I only use hooks anymore, I swere on it that if you have 5 or 6 differing hooks and a few tensioners, and skill  you can any locks that can be picked eventually.

Rakes are a waste of time, I only see knew rake designs coming out like those P.O.S's from HPC. Just buy hooks and practice. SPP'ing is more reliable and less damagaing then raking, Plus you look like a wank scrubbing a lock

I guess it's safe to assume then that I'm not the only one who bought a huge pick set and only uses about 3 of them?

What I did is bought the 14 pc set from southord, relatively cheap at like 24 bucks, and decided which ones I liked best, and which ones I could improve on. Then I just made my own to suit my picking style (i have 3 hooks, a diamond, and a triple snake on my feeler gauge set)
It's ok guys, i have a really bad attention sp-wow look, a beach!

I agree. I don't think diamonds, circles and snowmen are particularly useful for pin-tumbler locks. The circles and snowmen are useful for wafer locks.

If you want to pick locks competitively then you'll probably need to rake to get your times down. A combination of SPP and raking is usually quicker than SPP alone. Scrubbing -- moving the rake in and out of the cylinder in a sawing motion -- is damaging to the lock and it does look silly. Rippping -- especially with a snake rake -- is gentler on the lock because the motion is performed only once or twice and it doesn't look like you are are wanking a rodent using a pair of tweezers. Setting the last few pins on the way in (rather than on the rip out) can make for very fast opening times and it minimizes the wear on the cylinder.

I only have hooks. And I'd say I'm progressing quite nicely.
