How can you tell if a pin is set

Having read the FAQ's you are still unfulfilled and seek more enlightenment, so post your general lock picking questions here.

How can you tell if a pin is set

i know is supposed to click but i hear it click for every pin and it still doesnt work tried less tension same outcome . is the visable first pin suppsoed to stay up or come back down?

Also i cant seem to tell where each induvidual pin is i can just feel nothing and hear just a bunch of clicks ive been practising for 2 days and no success yet.

Any tips

if the pin is set the bottom pin will have no spring to it. ...

i cant feel the diference tough spring or no spring

You will be able to feel the plug spin just the slightest bit as well. The first pin should be nice and springy untill you set it. Once you have set it the bottom will fall back down and will no longer be springy. If it is stuck up top you have over set it. Try putting your pick all the way to the back of the plug and slowly pulling it out. You can feel each individual pin drop and that will give you a sense of where they are. 8) 8) 8)

If you can't feel the difference, this is probably due to a lack of experience. You should do Digital_Blue's lockpicking exercise. It's stickied under the FAQs. After you run through this exercise, you'll be able to tell the difference between a set pin and one that isn't set.
