Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where to purchase high security locks? I've grown bored of the local Lowe's, which only sells Masters, Quiksets, and Slages (crap, crap, and more crap). I live in DeKalb, IL, and if anyone knows where I can find a decently challenging lock it would be greatly appreciated.

You heard wrong try ebay or the buy and sell forums. I got mine for 15$ from Melvin. I would try Brinks Shrouded,Brinks R70, some Tri-Cricles can get difficult if they all have spools. For high security cylinders Medeco, Assa and Schlage primus are very secure and I doubt you could open them but they are worth a shot. My suggestion is get Serrated pins for your Schlage and see how hard that is for ya. There are lots of good locks out there you just have to search. Good luck,

It really depends on what model of american lock you buy. Some are way cheaper than 30 and some are over 30.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

Many American brand padlocks use the identical cylinder on different model padlocks .. the aluminum body padlocks are generally much cheeper than the larger steel bodies , yet have the identical core.

Yellow Pages.. go to your local locksmith... I have 7 pages of american padlocks in 1 catalog of many . they go from 12.17 to 92.35 5 of 70 are over $30
A locksmith should have cores and locks mabey (less) keys for nothin........take $40.00 or whatever and see what they can hook you up with..good luck

Americans are tough for spools.
Get an abus discus lock.. the key way will keep you entertained.
Medeco's are ehh.. not bad, you could get one open in while. Assa 6000, twin, ruko's (older assa style and bought out) You won't touch, i have only seen one person pick them and he admits ass well he can only under certian pinning situations.
Best bang for the local buck is a brinks shoulded or amored padlock, 6 pins 5 serrated key pins, 5 serrated spools, and a standard driver in the firt chamber and a serrated key pin. THats what mine has.
Shlage everests are fun to show off but not hard at all. Primus's again very difficult, never had one, never seen someone pick one.
If you get a brinks R70, aplly heavy tenion lift each pin while reducing tension as soon as it clicks, crankt he tension again and this lock is defeated, just a little trick.
Shrouded your ball game mate, after them fall open in 20-30 seconds do some reading and get a medeco and practice.

I've bought a bunch of locks on Ebay for very reasonable prices. I've also gotten some from a local locksmith. Just look around. I seem to notice them everywhere now that I'm looking for them.
