Problem Picking Kwikset deadbolt

Hello, noobie here. So heres the problem. I'm doing the whole Digital Blue beginner's guide and i have 1 pin to unlock with my shiny new southord C1510. Alright, so i try and try and try and i can't lift it to the point where it basically unlocks....i don't understand whats happening...so for fun, i just decided if i can go the other way, maybe im stupid and i was going the wrong way the entire time....wellllll heres the goofy part. I can pick it if i turn the tension left, basically picking the deadbolt to "lock" mode. but once in lock mode, when i try to tension pick it right to "unlock" mode...it won't go... but it will tension pick to the left...even though under "lock" mode it doesn't do anything but turn it.

So did i do something wrong when re-pinning it? Is this some kind of weird dead bolt that i should just return and buy a new one? It's a Kwikset Securty 660 & 665 Deadbolts (this version has key entry on both sides)

well I don;t see anything wrong with what you explain.. I have noticed when having trouble picking kik kil db's pick them locked.....then flip em.
I usually have customers "hovering" trying to learn some magic trick which we all have some.. so speed, accuracy, and non-destructive entry is the best cource of actionmost times.

If you pick some other locks for practice. check your tension is as light as it can be. [b]and try again later.[/b]

Agreed with Spike; put the absolute smallest amount of tension as possible on the lock while picking. The only thing I can imagine you're doing wrong is putting too much tension on, enough to make the shear line impossible to contact. Put just enough tension on the lock so as to keep everything still, and no more; there's no need for more tension and any more tension than necessary will cause more and more problems the more tension you put on it. I remember being where you were; thinking "How the hell am I ever going to pick 5 pins!?" Trust me, with some work and a bit of dedication, you'll look back and laugh at this. Good luck!

I've noticed than when I rake a lock I apply almost no tension at all. When I single pin pick, I apply just a tiny bit more pressure. I gotten really good with Kwikset locks. By doing this, I can open them every time. I'm trying some Schlage and Best locks now, and they are a little tougher, but not too much. I'm a newb too, so take it for what it's worth.
