Preferred brand of slimlines

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Preferred brand of slimlines

Postby spyeyes007 » 16 Jan 2007 19:31

Even though I am new to the boards, I have been picking for quite a while and love it. Anyways I must say the moderators and members are an excellent source of knowledge and thank you for your informative posts. Picking is strictly a hobby for me. I already have a set of Peterson Just Picks with rubber handles, nicely housed in a Peterson trifold case. For more restrictive keyways I was intererested in seeing from some seasoned verterans what brand is most prefered for slimlines. I mostly only see SO's but I really like Peterson, does anyone have the slim Peterson's and how well do you like them. Any advise would be well appreciated.

I voted Peterson but Falle-Safe has a sort of slim-line picks--actually there's three different sets of hooks, sort of regular, slim, and uber-skinny, so if Falle-Safe were up there that's who I would've voted for, otherwise Peterson definitely beats southturd....

The Peterson's are made of a better steel than the SOs and their plasticized handles strike a good balance between comfort and control.

There are other slimlines that you haven't mentioned: Falle-Safe, HPCs 2000 series and the special Rytan set (they have a version with smaller heads and thinner shafts).

I'd rank them:

(1) Falle-Safe
(2) Peterson
(3) HPC 2000 series
(4) SO
(5) Rytan (the handles give neither control or comfort for me)

Well I can't say that i've tried Peterson or Falle, but I have and am still using SO and HPC. I find that the SO slim line picks are pretty decent and work well in a myrid of different locks faces. I'm still breaking in my HPC set but when all else fails, i generally go back to my SO picks because i've always seemed to have a great amount of success with them.
