How To Open An ACE II.

Postby sinux0k18 » 1 Feb 2007 14:06

Hello, over my years experience i couldn't open a ACE II
but that later changed when i was able to figure out the techqnique
and this would be the only way of opening it!
it usally takes less than 5 min of concentration and determination for this.

First, insert pick... Make sure the tension is really tight and pins are stright.
Now, you must Rock back and forth for about 1-2min
usally only one minute, then the lock as been impressioned and it will not
open when your rocking it.
This is the tricky part, is were you realease pressure and turn slightly..
and presto, you have open the impossible lock..

remember, you must not pull the pick out at all and you must keep it rockinfg for at least a minute and then dont pull out. Just realease pressure AND IT SHOULD OPEN!

PM ME BACK IF THIS WORKS FOR YOU!!!
THANKS! :)

well i won't PM you but that is how a tubular pick is to workand I imagine that using a tubular pick as a tubular pick works quite well oppossed to using it as an orange juicer

I can see where his post makes more sense than stating the obvious. When I bought my tubular picks from southern specialties (they are just like the HPC picks), the instructions said that you 'apply slight turning, back the pick out 1/16", turn slightly and push in. repeat this 8 times'... impressioning as well. That method works very well on cheaper locks, but I use a combination of the two for Ace IIs. I do as he said, rotating for a while, and then pull out. If that doesn't work quickly, I add a bit of the 'push in and out while turning slightly' to finish them.

Lacking a tubular pick -- they have to be picked in stages, one click at a time. Is there such thing as a plug spinner for these (so that if you were to pick it one chamber over, you could spin it the rest of the way without having to individually pick every click)?

you're not supposed to pick an ACE II the way you would normally half fast cheap tubular locks, take off the little ring because it will greatly interfere, pull the picks up to the little groove and stick the pick in, apply tension in any direction, and push the pins down in order going around the pick and once you feel it open, tighten the tension and you can turn it all the way. this will take about 20 seconds avg.

Actually about 50% of ACE II's WILL pick normally, just with high tension.

I've had some I spend 2 minutes a day on for a couple weeks.. then all of a sudden, they open.

Absolutely correct. With varying technique, I've actually found that about 80% of ACE IIs that I have open in the 'normal' method (though my sampling group is relatively small: 20 locks).

I seem to have the most problems with the IIs that have a very shiny chrome collar (the flat piece) surrounding the center post. I don't know if chicago contracts out their construction, or it has to do with date of manufacture.

I never used my pick excpet to get the combo.

Manual pick and snag the impression from the first rotation.

I only ever used my practice board for this, but there nothing special, although Ace did make an ecomically freindly change that worked well.
