Hey, i've been on this site for a while already because I've had a name a couple months a go with a lot of posts in it, but whatever. I've pretty much mastered "manual" lockpicking and using the EPG,but I've just came across the bum key concept and need some help on the shaping of the actual bump key. All I need is help on if I shaped anything wrong and what i should do, btw I filed it down with a triangle filer and am planning to bump a schlage lock. Thank You!

Yes, it's shaped wrong. You did cut the valleys to the deepest depth from what I can see in your pic, but the peaks in between are way too high. I don't think this is going to work. If you search around on the site or even take a look at the bump keys for sale on eBay, you'll see many pictures of what bump keys are supposed to look like. There's even an active thread that has a good picture of a Kwikset bump key that works.

I think you need to widen out the valley more.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

the angles are too steep. you should use a square file, this will give the correct profile.

When you widen the valleys, similar to that of a normal key the ridges should reduce dramatically. Also the angle of the ridge slopes should be 45 deg.

Well, know I know I'm not got even attempt this.
Its gonna be a learning experince but really don't have money to buy a file and some key blanks..

when making the bump key i find it better to use an old key rather than buy a blank as you have the spacing correct and you only have to file to your maximum depth,use a file closer to 45 degrees and that will get rid of your high peeks.another clue is to use a junior hacksaw to cut your depth first and it helps to keep your filing true and you dont over file
