I think that the accuracy will depend on the attention to detail during assembly and consistency during operation, much like cheaper duplicators that don't cut the same for different operators. I have no doubt that a code cutter made in this manner would be a little quirky but still very functional.

I think as long as you always dialed "to" a number you could get by. What I mean by this is alway dial up. Say you cut a .265 cut in position one and the next cut is .235, you would dial down from .265 to .225 then back up to .235. This will eliminate alot of the vice tolerance error.
