read that thread... it has all your legal answers

From what i can gather you are allowed to own and have picks at your home, but not carry them.

Most people say any set will do Australian locks, but i think you are better off getting a slim line set (euro/ japanese set) as some of out locks have restrictive keyways. Everything you can do with a standard set you can do with slims, but not the other way around.

hope that helps...

You will get a mixture of both kinda of locks there. i'd recommend a slimline set as i have some locks my standard picks would be no use in.

BTW this has been covered a few times recently. ill be nice as your new but some people can be a bit.... touchy when it comes to answering the same questions again and again. if u don't search first you will end up with a few snide comments

all the best

I don't know of any places in Australia where you could buy a proper set, so you'll probably have to order them online from America, UK etc. http://www.lockpickshop.com/ will have what you want, and there are a few Aussie's here who have ordered through them and got them through the mail with no problems.

Do you need to give them some sort of proof that you are a locksmith?

I tried to buy from a locksmith supply here in Melbourne and they would not sell to me as i wasn't a locksmith. Don't know if this will happen all over the country or even at a different supply place. I just order from OS.

yeh you do have to be a locksmith, so buying from over seas woould be your only way, or make some, would be more rewarding
