Picking open Master Padlocks #19 and #230

i have a Master #19 padlock and a few #230 padlocks. i'm having troubles picking them i have the peterson picks. but i'm also not lubricating the locks. should i do this and if so what should i use i heard WD-40 is a silicone and might/will gum up. and was told that PB-Blaster is better then WD-40. but when i learned/started Locksmithing i was taught/they used powderd graphite back then. and i always raked my locks open. or is there a set of picks that will fit better in the padlocks. that i'm mentioning. i also have a few questions on Auto Locks but i think right now i can't ask that question here. WoW those are monster locks you have there. MasterNo.19s are a bit tricky being like one of the few 6pin locks available

If you're having binding issues its either your torque is to high or, like you said a dirty lock. In a pinch WD-40 works ok but i wouldnt recommend it on any locks personaly (to many future complications). graphite works well but it to messy for my tastes plus if oil has been used in the past you have a high probability of gumming the lock with it. I personaly never used PB blaster so i cannot tell you either way .I use a product called P.T.F.E Dry lubricant. It will clean & lubricate the lock even if a oil has been used in the past.Its some wicked stuff.

Picks are picks what ive used here are a small half diamond or a S rake and a standered hook works well. There are like 30 other picks that will work just fine but the point is that any basic pick should work fine. Just take your and time dont try for the speed picking championships.

As far as the auto locks Im pretty sure no one is going to help you with them.Its in the dreaded relm of ADVANCED TOPIC. Sorry bud.

Wolfe where do you Acquire your P.T.F.E. Dry Lubricant.

Thier are a number of online suppliers.Some of the hardware stores carry It.Im not sure where your located but sears,ace,harbor frieght,maybe even some automotive stores.I cant remember ever seeing it in any Big home store like depot n lowes though.

depot carries it it is a liquid wrench product. I use all their stuff I also use graphite and wd-40 all for various things. liquid wrench ptfe is wet then dries like alcohol or gasoline but leaves a slippery residue and gets all the s**t out of tiny spaces or gummy stuff off.

take a can of brake parts cleaner and put the straw on the front, next, spray as much as possible everywhere in the lock. Next, take your hose and blast the S*%t out of it inside the keyway. After that, take some graphite or WD-40 and put a -little- bit in there, make sure the lock is upside down, and you get it over the pins. Then, take the key and keep locking/unlocking it for about a minute, keeping it upside down. Then close your eyes and blow semi-hard in the keyway. This should both clean it, and lubricate it.
